I'm working...I promise

With recent posts on Thanksgiving and rain storms I didn't want you all wondering whether I was actually working. I am happily occupied with many assignments some of them involving travel but I do not want to discuss my trips on this blog until after they are complete. There are also some great human interest stories I'll be pitching to media back in the States.

Today Book Riot announced its 2026 Read Harder Challenge . I look forward to this annual announcement and immediately start considering what books I might read for which challenges. Last month I finished the 2025 Read Harder Challenge , making this the eighth year in a row I've completed the 24 reading prompt challenge. While I worked through this year's read harder challenge, 2025 proved particularly hard on all fronts—personal, professional, and health. Seeking out Scottish Gold

Okay...time to get to the REAL reason we went to Scotland - SCOTCH (aka single malt whisky). The boys (Tom and Phil) had been talking off and on about making a scotch run to Scotland and indulging in Scotland's finest libation.  I jumped in pretty early expressing my desire to visit Scotland too and closed the deal by dangling out the offer to be the designated driver.  During the summer our plans began to take shape.  We tried to lure my father-in-law into making the trip, who alas could not be tempted to cross the big watery pond of the Atlantic Ocean, and also invited along a girlfriend for me to pal around with, who as you know from my earlier post broke her ankle just weeks before the trip.  But, before knowing all of that, Tom figured that the expense of hotel rooms for everyone (possibly 5 adults, only two of whom would be sleeping together), plus a rental vehicle, plus meals, could be pretty steep.  So he tossed out the idea of getting a motor home....

There is Real Hunger in the World, it's Not Just a Game

I recently volunteered to do a monthly post on my blog in support of a Christian ministry that Tom and I have been supporting for many years - Gospel for Asia .  I first learned of Gospel for Asia, referred to as GFA, through my mother-in-law, who supported the ministry for many years, and my father-in-law continues that support since Mom's death in 2004.  Also, around this same time, someone at our church in St. Louis, gave me a copy of the book "Revolution in World Missions" written by GFA's founder K.P. Yohannan.  My support to GFA began small, giving bi-monthly through the Combined Federal Campaign, which is the Federal government's program providing employees a way to give to charities of their choosing through automatic deductions from their paychecks.  Recently, we've become more involved, helping to sponsor two missionaries in India, and participating in GFA's annual Christmas catalog .  Once a month I'm going to depart from the normal foc...
